About

About Us

Our practice philosophy is to provide exceptional, personalized, and compassionate care to our patients with the goal to keep them as active canine companions!

Dr. Jenn cares deeply about all of her patients with the simple goal of treating each patient as if it were her own pet. We have longer appointment times and rehabilitation sessions are always with a licensed therapist.

Our wellness clinic was designed with our patients in mind. There are no exam tables, only chairs, comfortable rugs, and dog beds. This idea came from Dr Jenn working years in general practice, seeing the high anxiety in most patients for routine health care. We are constantly looking for ways to lower the stress and create a comfortable atmosphere for our patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Veterinary rehabilitation?
Veterinary rehabilitation is the diagnosis and management of patients with painful or functionally limited conditions, particularly those with injury or illness related to the neurologic or musculoskeletal systems. The goal of rehabilitation is to achieve the highest level of function, independence and quality of life possible for the patient", the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians (go to www.rehabvets.org for more information). Rehabilitation therapists develop a multimodal treatment plan based on your pet's specific conditions that can consist of therapeutic modalities for pain relief (i.e. therapeutic laser, shockwave), manual therapies, acupuncture, exercises, and nutrition in order to provide greater opportunity for a successful outcome.
  • What to expect at your first rehabilitation appointment?
At Bayside Animal Rehab Center, your visit will not be your typical vet appointment. Our practice is unique in how we operate. Prior to your first appointment, we request that the referral form or any records (including diagnostic results) from your veterinarian. Your therapist will review these 24 hours prior to your consult.Your pet’s first appointment will be about 1.5-2 hours long depending on your pet’s needs. During your initial consult, our doctor will perform a fear-free assessment which may include an orthopedic, neurologic, and soft tissue exam. The doctor will review the findings from the assessment and explain the recommended treatment plan, which is often a combination of therapies, modalities, exercises, supportive devices, and medications/supplements. We will also build a therapeutic home exercise program and teach you what to do at home. If time allows, we will get started on treatments during your first appointment. If any further diagnostics such as radiographs and bloodwork are recommended, these will be performed by your primary veterinarian. Sometimes, advanced diagnostics such as MRI or CT may be recommended at a referral center. We offer musculoskeletal ultrasounds to help diagnose ligament, tendon, and muscle injuries. We can dispense supplements, prescriptions, and provide assistive devices, if needed. Follow-up appointments for your pet are about 45 minutes long. Each follow-up appointment and frequency is tailored to meet your pet’s specific needs. We work closely with your schedule, budget, and goals to create a successful plan for you and your pet.
  • What do I have to do to prepare for a visit?
Please fill out the client form under patient forms, this will help give us the information we need to make the most out of your first appointment. Bring your pet’s favorite treat or toy to help make your pet’s rehabilitation fun, as well as any assistive devices.
  • Why should my pet see my primary care veterinarian prior to rehabilitation?
At BARC we focus on rehabilitation techniques to improve your pet's quality of life and achieve the highest level of function possible. Your primary veterinarian is key to this starting this process, by working their hardest to get as close to a diagnosis as possible. Primary veterinarians will perform diagnostics such as bloodwork and radiographs that will give us as much information as possible to make the rehabilitation process safe and effective. Sometimes, we may refer you back to your veterinarian for further diagnostics. Here at BARC, we do not provide any vaccines or wellness care to those patients referred to us by their veterinarian for rehabilitation. Teamwork between the rehabilitation practitioner and primary care veterinarian will give your pet the greatest opportunity for recovery. Referring veterinarians can fill out the patient referral form under patient forms.
  • Do you treat cats?
Yes, of course! Osteoarthritis is more under-diagnosed in cats than our canine companions. In addition, because cats do not tolerate the chronic use of medications as well as dogs, alternative, less-invasive therapies can be very beneficial for cats. While, not all rehabilitative techniques work well on all cats, we can work to find the therapies that benefit your kitty.
  • Will my pet insurance cover the costs of treatments?
Yes, depends on your insurance carrier! Some pet insurances will cover the cost of rehabilitation, or at least part of it. Visit The American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians website, where they have provided a table reviewing each of the insurance carriers and the options provided for rehabilitation coverage.
  • How much does it cost?
Please call us for pricing information. The initial appointment includes the evaluation and if time allows, treatment. All follow-up appointments include therapeutic exercise, massage, therapeutic laser, and hydrotherapy. Acupuncture and shockwave treatments are separate.
  • What forms of payment are accepted?
BARC requires payment at time of service. All major forms of payment are accepted including credit cards, checks, and cash. No payment plans are accepted.
